This particular type of variety belongs to the “long bean” family. This variety of long bean is by far the most unique of any others!

These beans can reach incredible lengths on average of 18 inches!! One of our first beans of the season however got to 26 inches! These beans stay tender even at these massive lengths, and the best part is that they taste like rich green beans!

The coloring of these pods is out of this world! Deep reddish/purple pods get their color due to high levels of anthocyanins. These bioactive pigments are color changed based on the sun exposure meaning more sun = darker pods! This also gives the beans a more earthy taste.

These beans are extremely easy to grow and love the heat of summer! They take much longer to mature (about 80 days) than normal beans, but once they start producing, you will get absolutely loaded with these Jurassic size vegetables. Once these get established, you shouldn’t need to fertilize, and you won’t need to water much due to these being quite drought resistant!

If you have a walk through trellis, or want something in your yard that is eye catching, I would definitely recommend these. Even the flowers are beautiful!
